Fat Is Not Your Fault (clips):

TOPIC AVAILABLE FOR LECTURE

Length: approximately 45 minutes + 15 minutes Q&A

Topics:

  1. Fat Is Not Your Fault : The 10 Principles of Fat Loss Resistance*
    1. Incorrect Exercise
      1. We provide the basics about interval training, the myths about cardio, EPOC (Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption), the role of lactic acid, and the hormonal effects of different types of exercise
    1. Wrong Diet
      1. Myths and misconceptions about dieting and calorie restriction, macronutrient ratios, and biochemical individuality; insulin resistance will be discussed
    1. Poor Attitude
      1. If someone does not see themselves as thin, they won’t be thin.  We become what we think about and if we want to change our body, we must first change our mind.
    1. Hypothyroidism (low functioning thyroid)
      1. Hypothyroidism is one of the main reasons someone cannot lose weight.  We will discuss basic physiology of the thyroid, thyroid hormones, the many causes of hypothyroidism and what to do aboutit.
    1. Stress and Your Adrenal Glands
      1. Stress is insidious and has numerous negative impacts on the body, all of which lead to the inability to lose weight. The role of adrenal hormones, especially cortisol, as it pertains to weight gain will be discussed, as will ways of reducing the effects of cortisone on the body.
    1. Hormone Balance
      1. Hormones have a potent effect on all aspects of the body, including the in ability to lose weight.  We will focus mainly on how estrogen and testosterone in women effect the body’s ability to lose weight.  Insulin, cortisol and appetite/satiety hormones (leptin, ghrelin) will also be discussed.
    1. Neurotransmitter Balance
      1. Neurotransmitters influence our mood, our motivation and our cravings.  Therefore if our neurotransmitters are out of balance, it can affect our diet, our desire to workout, and our overall feelings towards ourselves and life in general.  We will discuss the basic four neurotransmitters, how they work in our body, how to determine which ones might be out of balance and possible nutritional strategies to balance them.
    1. Gastrointestinal health
      1. The health of the gastrointestinal system is grossly overlooked in today’s society.  A malfunctioning GI system can lead to dysbiosis (imbalance of good bacteria to bad bacteria), food sensitivities, inflammation, infection (bacteria, parasites, candida) – all of which can negatively affect our ability to lose weight.  Strategies to identify and correct GI dysfunction will be discussed.
    1. Toxicity
      1. We live in the most toxic time in human history, and research is demonstrating how accumulated toxins can stop us from losing weight via numerous different mechanisms (i.e. thyroid, hormonal).  We will discuss the detoxification systems of the body, how toxins negatively impact our physiology and ways of safely cleansing our body of unwanted toxins.
    1. Cellular Dysfunction
      1. On a basic cellular level, if we cannot get key nutrients into our cells for normal cellular function, we will not have the energy to exercise or burn fat.  This is an often overlooked feature of fat loss resistance.  We will discuss basic mechanisms and examples of cellular dysfunction (i.e. anemia) and how to correct these imbalances.

*Any topic can be presented singularly, or in tandem with other topics.

  1. Autoimmune Disease: The Modern Epidemic
    1. Autoimmune disease is at an all time high, including thyroid autoimmune conditions.  The majority of these conditions are not being treated correctly by conventional or alternative medicine.  Learn the mechanism of autoimmune disease, and basic recommendations to help regulate the immune system to help manage the condition properly.
  1. Menopause: The Real Reason You’re Suffering and What to Do About It
    1. Many women suffer from symptoms of menopause, but they do not have to be suffering.  With the negative complications of hormonal replacement therapy (i.e. cardiovascular issues), many women are seeking alternatives.  We will discuss the basic mechanisms of menopause, and the importance of balancing out blood sugar, detoxification pathways, and the adrenal glands to help successfully manage the symptoms of menopause.
  1. Detoxification: How To Do It and Why You Should
    1. Cleansing one’s body of toxins has become en vogue in recent years, but there are right ways and wrong ways of cleansing one’s body.  With the toxic burden we are under today, proper detoxification is imperative so to not damage the body or cause an unwanted negative reaction from the cleanse.  We will discuss the mechanisms and organs involved in detoxification, why everyone needs to detoxify, the science of how to safely detoxify the body as well as maintenance practices we can do every day in order to lower the toxic burden we are under.
  1. Beyond Fat and Cholesterol: The Real Truth About Cardiovascular Disease
    1. Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in America, but it is still grossly misunderstood by many people, including doctors.  For example, elevated cholesterol is not as detrimental as it once was thought to be, yet statins are one of the most prescribed drugs in America. Today there are new markers medicine is using to identify cardiovascular issues, which we will discuss in detail.  We will cover the many aspects of cardiovascular disease as it pertains to diet, lifestyle and outlook towards life.  We will also cover the different diagnostic tests that people can have run if they want to determine their risk of cardiovascular disease and how to correct imbalances nutritionally.

  2. Balancing Female Hormones
    1. Female hormone issues are at an all time high, but treatment is not as simple as hormone replacement therapy. Studies have shown it to be harmful to women and emperical evidence indicates it does not work for all women. Come learn the four things you must do first before you consider hormone replacement therapy. These four things, when corrected, can help balance your hormones without having to take them.
